HAIR INFECTION

Doctor examining woman hair

Infection of the hair may infect either the hair shaft or the bulb of the hair root. It can have either a fungal or bacterial origin.

FUNGAL HAIR INFECTION is most frequently observed in young children and immunocompromised patients, and rarely in young adults. Predisposing circumstances include intimate contact between youngsters, pets, and individuals with poor hygiene. They can manifest as either hair loss that appears as a greyish scaly area of partial hair loss (grey patch) or broken/fallen-off hair that leaves behind black spots (black dot variant). Within the patch, the hair will be dull and weak

On occasion, pus-filled sensitive patches can also be observed on the scalp.

DIAGNOSIS

Can be determined based on clinical presentation and microbiological analysis.

ATTENTION AT THE SKIN & YOU CLINIC
